Cupcakes!

Last Friday, I decided to celebrate my birthday with a very dear friend who happens to have a birthday in February also.  We painted ceramics with more dear friends, and ate dinner all together.
I thought such a celebration ought to include fine delicacies.

Such as cupcakes.

Another dear friend gave me an awesome book on cupcakes for my birthday, and I couldn't wait to try something.

Sooo cute!

My husband helped me make them (under some duress), however, I think he really enjoyed the challenge of trying and succeeding in making his just as good or better than mine!

The book is 'What's New Cupcake?' by Karen Tack and Alan Richardson.  They have another book out as well, that I would really like to buy 'Hello Cupcake'.  I love decorating cupcakes and cakes, but since they are horrible on one's body, I simply save them for special occasions.

How fun are these?  Don't you just want to order your own copy of the book now?

  1. Oh those are really beautiful! I tried making the sunflower cupcakes from the Hello, Cupcake book, but they didn't turn out this well. Maybe it was because I was one day out from having HarriEd and everything was Very Irritating. :-) Are they frosted, or are those cut marshmallows? I can't really tell.

  2. Very pretty! When I was little my grandma made me an angel food cake and cut the marshmallows to look like daisies. It was so pretty and made me feel very special!

  3. Thanks! :)

They are indeed cut marshmallows, coated in colored sugar. The sugar only sticks to the cut side. They are frosted to make the marshmallows stick as well.
