Juice Fast: Day 3
Day 3 is accomplished. They say the first 3 days are the hardest. I hope so. Today hasn't been too bad really...I haven't felt hungry, but things sound good. So I'm differentiating between "wants" and "needs".
I "want" a brownie.
I don't "need" a brownie.
There is a section in the 'Large Family Logistics' book where the author talks about self control, exercise and diet. She says to think before you eat, if the item you are eating is for instant gratification, or delayed gratification. For instance...I want the cookie, but is the cookie going to help the dimples on my thighs, or keep my tummy lean? It's delaying the instant gratification of the cookie or brownie (or too many cookies and brownies) for the delayed gratification of looking and feeling better.
I've been thinking a lot about that the past 3 days. And really, that, and the fact that I'm blogging this whole experience, is what's keeping me going. I've also been thinking about that whole concept in regards to exercise as well. It might feel better to not exercise right now...but later, if I DO exercise, I'll feel a lot better.
See, I finally DID exercise today. How long has it been? Far too long. I did my pilates for flexibility, and pilates for the abs (talk about feeling a burn), I ran for *almost* a mile and walked the rest, and did about 25 crunches. Compared to some people, that's nothing. Compared to my activity for the last 15 years of my life..that's awesome.
Tonight, Nathan's made a juice that is about as good as Kool-Aid. Honestly, I'd prefer this to Kool-Aid.
Better Than Kool-Aid
4 or 5 cups watermelon, cubed
1 orange
1 lemon
Put all through the juicer. Serve over ice.
Perhaps this would be even better with another orange, but either way, I'm really liking it.
Oh, and have I mentioned how long Nathan's been on his juice fast? 17 days! Woo-hoo! Go Nathan! Have I mentioned how insanely proud of him I am? He's lost 22-ish pounds, and he's still going.
(I'm trying to convince him to post his before and after pictures, no matter how embarrassing they may be!)
I am so excited you're exercising! woo!
